Transferring knowledge from operations to projects

Early inclusion of operational knowledge and lessons learnt allow projects to easily influence design and minimise the cost of change.

A60N focuses on the following considerations with regard to ensuring that projects deliver designs which are optimised for decades of operations:

  • Ability to inspect key components / points of interest

  • Access for cleaning, intervention and testing

  • Operability / functionality with regard to deposits build-up

  • Material selection with regard to all feasible failure mechanisms

  • Cathodic protection considerations with regard to

    • Material selection and corrosion

    • Potentially detrimental effects of the CP system, such as deposit build-up on retrievable equipment or hydrogen generation on equipment prone to environmental embrittlement

To ensure the above, A60N offers the following services:

  • Specification reviews

  • Detailed design reviews

  • Equipment reviews and checks throughout fabrication, at site or in the office

  • Reviews of or attendance at SITs and FATs

Equipment Modification

Based on the the findings of a root cause failure investigation, items of subsea equipment for a new project were modified by the vendor, without having to change the basis of design or requalify the product. The work included:

  • Proposed mitigations which could be applied without changing the materials / design / qualification status

  • Vendor discussions

  • Modification design reviews

  • Lessons learnt sessions
